Kirkwood on Churchill

Caryl Churchill has been given an award for Outstanding Contribution to Writing by the Writers Guild of Great Britain. Lucy Kirkwood (who also won the award for Best Play for the astonishing The Children) was asked to give the speech. To help prepare, we met for a coffee to chat about Caryl Churchill, the conversation soon dissolving into expressions of pure fandom.

Lucy somehow composed herself enough to write a beautifully precise but heartfelt tribute, from one playwright to another, to the breadth and daring of Caryl Churchill's work.
